At Dothan School of Dance, we offer a wide range of classes designed to inspire dancers of all ages and skill levels. Beginning with our Mommy & Me program for toddlers (age 2) and progressing through classes for students ages 3 and up, our curriculum includes Creative Movement, Classical Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Acrobatics, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, and other specialty classes throughout the year.
Each student is thoughtfully placed in classes based on their age, ability, and experience by our highly trained faculty to ensure the best possible foundation and growth. As students advance, class requirements increase to support their technical development, artistry, strength, and overall performance skills. To achieve proper progress, students are required to take the minimum number of classes designated for their level.

Creative Movement: Levels 1 & 2 (Level 1 – Age 3 and Level 2 – Age 4)
Class Schedule: One 45-minute class per week
Designed for our youngest dancers, Creative Movement introduces children to the joy of dance in a playful and structured environment. This class focuses on foundational ballet positions and terminology, presented in a way that encourages imagination and creativity. Students also develop essential motor skills, including coordination, flexibility, rhythm, and basic locomotor movements, laying the groundwork for future dance training.
Hippity Hoppity: Ages 3-5
Class Schedule: One 30-minute class per week
A fun and energetic introduction to dance, Hippity Hoppity is designed for boys and girls ages 3-5 who just can’t stop moving! This upbeat class combines beginner hip hop and creative movement to build confidence, coordination, and rhythm in young dancers. All music selections are age-appropriate to create a positive and engaging environment. Students are required to wear ballet or jazz dancewear with tan jazz shoes.
Kindergarten Ballet/Tap: Age 5
Class Schedule: One 60-minute class per week
This combination class is designed for 5-year-olds to build a strong foundation in both ballet and tap. Students develop grace, balance, and coordination through basic ballet technique while learning rhythm and musicality with beginner tap skills. This well-rounded class provides a fun and encouraging environment that prepares young dancers for more structured training as they advance.
Tumbling Tots: Ages 3-5 (Beginner Level)
Class Schedule: One 45 minute class per week
Designed for ages 3–5, this beginner-level class introduces young dancers to the fundamentals of acrobatics in a safe and fun environment. Students build strength, coordination, and flexibility while learning basic tumbling skills such as rolls, balances, and introductory inverted movements. Creative exercises and age-appropriate activities keep the class engaging, helping children develop confidence and body awareness as they grow.
Acrobatics: Ages 5 and up
Class Schedule: One 45 minute class per week
Open to students ages 5 and up, this class focuses on developing strength, flexibility, balance, and control through acrobatic skills and floor work. Students progress through foundational acro techniques such as rolls, handstands, cartwheels, bridges, and more advanced skills as they build confidence and strength. Acrobatics is an excellent complement to dance training, improving overall athleticism, body awareness, and performance quality.
Levels:
- Acro Level 1 & 2: 1st & 2nd graders
- Acro Level 3–5: Dancers enrolled in Level 3–5 classes
- Intermediate/Advanced Acro: Must have front and back walkovers mastered
Ballet: Levels 1-8
Class Schedule:
- Beginner Levels: One 45-minute class per week
- Intermediate & Advanced Levels: Multiple classes per week, ranging from 1 to 1½ hours each
Our ballet program, designed for levels 1-8, offers a progressive curriculum that builds a strong technical foundation and cultivates grace, discipline, and artistry. Students advance through levels of training, focusing on classical ballet technique, terminology, musicality, and performance quality. As dancers progress, additional classes are required to ensure proper strength, alignment, and readiness for advanced movements such as turns, jumps, and pointe work.
Jazz: Levels 1-8
Class Schedule:
- Beginner Levels: One 45-minute class per week
- Intermediate & Advanced Levels: Multiple classes per week, ranging from 1 to 1½ hours each
Our jazz program, offered for levels 1-8, combines high-energy movement with strong technical training to develop versatility, rhythm, and stage presence. Students explore a wide variety of jazz styles, from classic Broadway to contemporary trends, while focusing on technique, flexibility, strength, and dynamic performance skills. As dancers advance, increased class requirements ensure they build the stamina and artistry needed for more complex choreography.
Tap: Levels 1-8
Class Schedule: One 45 minute class per week
Our tap program, designed for levels 1-8, focuses on rhythm, timing, and musicality while building precision and speed in footwork. Students progress through a structured curriculum that develops foundational tap technique, intricate rhythms, and performance skills. As dancers advance, they explore more complex combinations and styles to refine both clarity of sound and artistic expression.
Pointe: Levels 6-8
Class Schedule:
- Pre-Pointe: One 45-minute class per week. This class is designed to prepare dancers for pointe work by developing the necessary ankle strength, core stability, and alignment.
- Beginner Pointe: One 30-minute class per week. This class introduces students to pointe technique with a focus on safety, correct placement, and foundational exercises at the barre.
- Advanced Pointe: Two classes per week. These classes build strength, endurance, and artistry while progressing to more complex movements and choreography on pointe.
Pointe work is an advanced extension of classical ballet that requires significant strength, control, and proper technique. This class focuses on developing the necessary skills for dancing on pointe safely, including proper foot and ankle strength, balance, and precision. Students advance at an individual pace under the careful guidance of our instructors.
- Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in at least two ballet classes per week and have reached Ballet Level 6 or higher.
- Placement: Participation in Pointe is by teacher recommendation only and is based on technical readiness, strength, and alignment.
Musical Theatre: Levels 2-8
Class Schedule:
- Levels 2-4: 45-minute class, once per week
- Levels 4-6: 45-minute class, once per week
- Levels 6-8: 45-minute class, once per week
Our Musical Theatre program combines the energy of Broadway-style dance with expressive storytelling and stage performance skills. Classes incorporate elements of jazz, acting, and character work to help dancers bring music and choreography to life. Students learn choreography inspired by classic and contemporary musicals, while developing confidence, stage presence, and expressive performance techniques.
Hip Hop: Levels 1-8
Class Schedule: One 30-minute or 45 minute class per week (based on level)
Designed for all levels, our Hip Hop program blends the latest street dance styles with high-energy movement, making it a great option for students who want to dance for fun, fitness, and self-expression without the formality of traditional technique classes. Students learn age-appropriate choreography, focusing on rhythm, musicality, coordination, and style. This class encourages creativity and confidence while building strength and endurance in a fun, upbeat environment.
Contemporary: Levels 3-8
Class Schedule: One 45-minute class per week
Contemporary dance blends elements of modern, jazz, and lyrical styles to create expressive and fluid movement. This class is available to students Level 3 and above, with no ballet requirement. Dancers explore creative expression, musicality, and storytelling through movement while building strength, flexibility, and versatility. Contemporary is an excellent choice for students who want to explore a more interpretive and free-flowing dance style.
Stretch & Strength: Levels 4-6
Class Schedule: One 45-minute class per week
This specialized class focuses on improving flexibility, muscle strength, and overall body conditioning to support dancers’ technical training and prevent injury. Designed for dancers at Levels 4 through 6, the class incorporates targeted stretching, strength-building exercises, and conditioning techniques to enhance performance quality and physical endurance.
Jumps & Turns: Levels 3-8
Class Schedule:
- Levels 3-4: One 30-minute class per week
- Levels 6-8: One 45-minute class per week
Focused on developing technique and control in airborne and rotational movements, these classes help dancers master essential skills for performance and choreography. Students work on proper alignment, spotting, strength, and balance to safely and confidently execute jumps and turns, enhancing their overall dance artistry.
Body Conditioning: Levels 5 and up
Class Schedule: One 45-minute class per week
This 45-minute class is designed to improve overall physical fitness, strength, endurance, and injury prevention for dancers of all levels. Through targeted exercises focusing on core strength, flexibility, and muscular endurance, students enhance their performance ability and maintain optimal physical health to support their dance training.
Specialty Class: DSD Performance Team members
Class Schedule: One 45-minute class per week
This exclusive class is designed for members of the DSD Performance Team, offering additional training across a variety of styles, including Lyrical, Modern, Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre. Students also receive focused instruction in audition techniques, helping them develop versatility, confidence, and stage presence.
Mommy & Me: Ages 18 months to 3 years
This is an 8 week session – $150 – Dates: September 4th – October 23rd every Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
Come bond with your little one through movement, music, and fun! This playful class is designed for parents (or caregivers) and their toddlers (ages 18 months to 3 years) to explore dance together. Through simple choreography, songs, and creative movement, children develop coordination, rhythm, and social skills—all while sharing smiles and laughter with their grown-ups.
